Weekly Summary: Week #2

Overall, I thought I did a lot better this week than I did last week. Last week I found myself overwhelmed and at times really confused as to what I was doing and if I was doing it right. This week I decided to dive into my assignments and give it my best, and it made me feel overall more confident in my work.

This week I surprised myself with my Daily Creates. When I first read on the Weekly Assignments that we would have to check the Daily Creates Twitter every day and complete at least 4, I thought to myself “I’m going to mess this up”. I didn’t have faith in myself to remember to do daily creates four times a week, and make them the day that they were posted. However, I got them all done and I found the process fun! Here are m yfour daily creates from the week:

1.

2.

3.

4.

I thought doing the Daily Creates was one of the most enjoyable parts of the week. On my first assignment, I found myself doubting if I did enough, but then I remembered that these assignments are supposed to be fairly quick, and if I did the best I could there should be no problem. After that, I didn’t feel nervous doing my Daily Creates. My favorite Daily Create that I did this week was definitely my Catastic Poetry (#3). For this assignment, I edited the poem Motto by Langston Hughes to make it sound like it was written by a cat. This poem is one that I have known my whole life, and it was a lot of fun to alter it!

In addition to doing daily creates this week, I also did three assignments from the Assignment Bank. I chose to do Create a Magazine Cover, PSA Billboard, and Logo Switch Up. My favorite assignment to do was the Logo Switch Up because I felt the most creative here, and I was really proud of the ad that I created, and I thought it was pretty clever.

If you want to check them out here they are:

  1. NOW THE BRAND NAME WAWA MAKES SENSE TO ME…
  2. PET PEEVES ARE PART OF MY STORY TOO!
  3. MY STORY MAGAZINE

Another blog post that I made this week was What’s (Y)our Story? What I think about the theme continued…. I really enjoyed reading my classmates thoughts on the theme from last week, and overall it really broadened my perspective of the theme. Before reading other’s opinions, I thought the theme was really centered around academics, but I found the more broad you let it be, the more creative you can be with your posts and assignments. This post wasn’t too difficult for me to write because I had a lot to say after reading my classmates thoughts on the theme, and I never found myself at a loss for what to say.

As I mentioned, I really enjoyed reading others posts this week, not just on the theme for the semester. My favorite posts to read were ones about creations from the Assignment Bank. I thought it was interesting to see what others made and how they interpreted different prompts. This week I participated mostly through leaving a couple comments on classmates posts daily. I found this the most simple way to participate because there was a lot to say about my reaction to other people’s work. Next week, I hope to participate more through Twitter. I’m not really comfortable with using Twitter, but I see others in ds106 classes and the ds106 community being active on Twitter and responding to Daily Creates, and next week I’m going to do more of that.

I had a lot of fun this week and I look forward to next week!
